Eagles in the Netherlands are being taught how to take out drones for the Dutch National Police. Dutch police teamed up with the raptor training company Guard From Above to specially train eagles to identify and snatch bothersome drones out of the sky.
The project is still in its early stages, but police say that should the eagles perform well in trials (and it seems that they are) they’ll decide in a few months’ time whether to use the eagles as standard practice.
There are other ways of dealing with drones, of course. Tokyo’s Metropolitan Police Department unveiled a squad of larger drones to catch smaller ones, for instance.
